BEIRUT: Lebanon is committed to getting 12 percent of its energy from renewable sources in 2020, Energy Minister Nada Boustani said Wednesday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

Speaking at the opening of the 10th International Beirut Energy Forum, Boustani stressed “our commitment to reach the goal of 12 percent renewable energy by 2020, especially after the ministry signed three contracts to buy energy from wind farms in Akkar.”

Lebanon first committed to the 12 percent goal in 2009; it plans to bump that number to 30 percent by 2030. In 2018, renewables contributed about 5 percent of the country's energy mix. Read more
