Andaket Municipality Provides Affordable Heating Fuel

Lebanese innovation in Energy Conservation: Andaketmunicipality was one of IPTEC's EAA winners in 2018-2019, for providing the residents of Andaket with affordable heating fuel through briquette production.

Andaket Municipality was one the EAA winners in 2018-2019 for providing the residents of Andaket with affordable heating fuel through their project: "Briquette Production Facility From Forestry and Agricutural Residues for Sustainable Heating". This project was in partnership with UNDP and the Embassy of Netherlands in Lebanons and the German Embassy in Lebanon.

Selected as the 2nd winner in the "EAA 2019" under the local government category, the Municipality of Andaket had implemented a briquette production facility that converts forestry and agriculture residues to biomass briquettes for household heating.

The plant is able to produce 450 tons of briquettes per year and provides the residents of Andaket with affordable heating fuel while reducing the risk of forest fires by improving forest management through seasonal pruning.
