The State Of Collapse Is An Opportunity For The Circular Economy Workshop

Under the sponsorship and presence of the Minister of Environment, Dr. Nasser Yassin, the Ministry of Environment, in cooperation with the Hanns Seidel Stiftung , organized a workshop entitled: “The State Of Collapse Is An Opportunity For The Circular Economy”, on Thursday, 27/7/2023, at the Radisson Blu Hotel - Verdun. The topics in the workshop focused on how to take advantage of the state of collapse that Lebanon is suffering from and turn it into an opportunity for the circular economy, especially the issue of waste sorting and recycling.

This system aims to eliminate waste and continuous use of resources of any kind. The circular economy, which is more sustainable than others, relies on reuse, sharing, repair and recycling to create a closed economic loop system.

Participants in the workshop sessions were the Minister of Environment along with the Ministry's work team, delegates and advisors in the Ministries of Industry, Economy and Environment, environmental engineers, financial researchers, environmental activists, general managers of private sector factories concerned with the waste sorting and recycling system, and others from outside the sector who apply Waste sorting policy like IPT company within the Oil and Gas sector, where Mr. Rizkallah Rizk - Corporate Governance Director represented the company and explained to the attendees how this process began in IPT , enumerating the many environmental activities and achievements in this field based on the company's commitment to its Vision & Mission, CSR Policy (Corporate Social Responsibility)  and UNGC principles (United Nations Global Compact) with relevant SDG's Sustainable Development Goals, noting that IPT is an active participant since 2018.

The workshop ends with recommendations to be raised to the Minister of Environment and other concerned ministries.
