Lebanon Charts a Roadmap for a Just and Climate-Resilient Transition
Lebanon has taken a bold step toward inclusive climate action.
The United Nations Global Compact Network Lebanon, with the support of IPT Group Holding and in collaboration with the American University of Beirut (AUB), successfully concluded a three-day Peer Learning Group (PLG) on Just Transition.
Held at the Issam Fares Institute at AUB, the program gathered leaders from business, government, academia, civil society, and development agencies to co-create pathways for Lebanon’s transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient, and socially inclusive economy.
Discussions ranged from workforce upskilling and green finance to renewable energy, waste valorisation, and water governance. The outcomes will inform a national Just Transition White Paper, embedding actionable priorities into Lebanon’s planning frameworks while signaling stronger private sector leadership.
Echoing the urgency of systemic change, Dr. Toni Issa, CEO and Vice Chairman of IPT Group Holding, stressed: “Strengthening the role of ministries and public institutions. Encouraging them to adopt sustainability and climate principles. Not only to properly align with global priorities, but also because every area of private sector activity is directly or indirectly tied.”
By bridging global frameworks with local priorities, the Peer Learning Group has set the stage for Lebanon to move forward on a roadmap that ensures no one is left behind while unlocking opportunities for investment, innovation, and resilience.
