Following the workshop on "Safety and Environmental Challenges in the Distribution of Petroleum Products in Lebanon" held on June 15, 2015 at the ESCWA, IPTEC is now discussing a framework with the General Directorate of Oil at the Ministry of Energy, the UNDP and the ESCWA to implement the proposed set of recommendations.
The set of recommendations includes among others: supporting the efforts of the Directorate General of Oil in implementing environmental safety measures in the storage, transportation and distribution of petroleum products and gas bottles; the legislation of the technical specifications of petroleum products that the General Directorate of Oil is currently working on with LIBNOR; encourage the use of fuel additives to improve combustion, increase energy efficiency and reduce pollution; prepare draft laws that require the adoption of cleaner fuel in the land transportation sector in Lebanon.
